Movie Cents - February 2010

Welcome to Movie Cents

Welcome to the very first FilmProposals newsletter. We've been around since 2002 and our customers and visitors have been requesting better ways to be updated on Film Industry news, specifically around Film Finance...so here it (finally) is!

If you've been putting off making your Independent Film - maybe our procrastination will inspire you to get started! We have lots of thoughts for future newsletters and always welcome YOUR feedback!

What's New

The FilmProposals website offers Film Makers more than ever before. A few cool sections to check out:

How to Make a Movie - 14 basic steps, including some very interesting tips and videos to watch. Check out Quentin Tarantino's number one tip for aspiring film makers...

Film Financing Stories - read how they (Spielberg, Daniels, Lucas and more) made their first films. Get inspired by their stories and share yours.

These are just two of the dozens of sections we've added recently!

Donate to Haiti and Finance Your Film!

Admittedly, we were late to the jump on the Haiti donation wagon. I made both a personal and business contribution, but then struggled with, "How can the Film Maker community do more to help these people?" FilmProposals will donate $25 per Package #3 ($99) sold (extended through February 15th).

The donation will go to one of three charities, American Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders or UNICEF - whichever receives the highest vote. Please read about the Charities and then Vote for the one YOU think should receive our donation.

Independent Film of the Month

Children Need Peace - submitted by Stephen Ndunaka from Lagos State, Nigeria, the Children Need Peace Campaign Project is in development and a journalistic outreach against against terrorism, armed conflict and War in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria.

Next month, we will choose a lighter film - we know not all films have a political message, and we all need to laugh occasionally, or a LOT!

Film Maker Tip of the Month

Investors rarely check Facebook or MySpace pages. They will ONLY watch movie trailers on a public website, such as FilmProposals.

If your Movie, Video or Production Company is hidden behind a password-protected website, you are hurting your chances to secure financing. How many independently wealthy people do you know who spend time on Facebook or MySpace? Do you know how many companies - law, technology, medical, finance - block Facebook and MySpace from their Executives and Employees?

FilmProposals allows you to do both - post your movie on an open site, and post your film on your Facebook or MySpace, simply by clicking "Share This Page" at the bottom of your Independent Film Showcase page. If you're ready for your own Movie site, we recommend SBI as THE best way to Market your film. Whatever you do - make sure potential investors are not blocked by a password protected site!

Film Finance Quote of the Month

"I'm now sending out my completed business plan/film proposal document to potential investors and the one comment I'm getting back almost immediately is that it's so well laid out and professional. Believe me, first impressions really do count. When someone sees that you take your business seriously, they're much more likely to take you and your projects seriously" - Kathleen, Albuquerque, NM.

More comments about Film Finance Tools. Add your comment and a Film Pitch or Film Showcase to be a future Film Finance Quote of the Month and get additional Film Investor publicity.

FilmProposals Movie Cents brings you the latest on everything you need to make YOUR Independent Film dream come true.

As it turned out, the business plan WAS the hardest thing I've ever done, but with the tools in the package, it made it much less stressful and the more I got into it, I thought to myself - YES!!!.quoted text
