Need Other Sources Besides Comparable Films for Financial Projections
Film Financial Projections - Comparable Films
Is there another way to derive sales projections other than using comparable films? I am finding that it is very expensive to obtain film (home video sales) breakdown per year of revenue, as I checked your sources. My analyst needs per year breakdown of home video sales domestic and international which is very expensive to obtain. So that is why I am asking is there other information we can use of which to base our home video projections?

FilmProposals Answer:
First, I assume you have purchased the entire Film Financing Package #3, as all your answers are in there.
To find the information for your Comparable Film Projections (which are not by year, but for the lifetime of a film), it is not at all expensive. Obtaining film (home video sales) revenue breakdowns is usually free, and the sources are listed in the Film Financing Manual.
If you can't find free info, then it is always possible to use Home Video Sales as a percentage of overall revenue, with the percent being allocated based on other films. Just take 3-10 films in similar genres and budgets to yours, average the ratios of their Home Video to Total Revenue and apply that ratio to your project. Projections are never an exact science...by definition, they cannot be. The best you can do is make an education guess, using the best information you can find.
If I understand what you are saying - your analyst wants to breakdown the home video revenue by year? I assume this is for cash flow projections, for which we do not offer a template.
However, how to do Cash Flow Projections is on Page 12 of the Financing Manual, using the "Lifecycle of a Film" Chart, which specifically states, "This chart is a great tool to help you with Cash Flow projections over the course of your film or production company."
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
