Cryptic Reflections

Cryptic Reflections

Cryptic Reflections is a full-length no-budget digital feature. It's 78 minutes long. It was shot in DV format in a span of approximately 3 years starting from 2004. It's a Psychological Thriller/Surreal Drama about one man's growth throughout one day.

The day before his birthday. Waheed (our protagonist) struggles to overcome all forms of inner conflicts: fear of death, identity crisis, loss of loved ones, self-loathing, etc. The film climaxes with Waheed's confrontation with his alter-ego Farid (an imagined Anton La Vey-like rock star). What intensifies the drama is Waheed's loneliness after the loss of all his nuclear family members. He's even chased around the film by his ex-girlfriend who abandoned him in pursuit of nymphomania.

After a series of escalating dreamlike scenes, Waheed ends up in a clinic only to discover an important secret!

Cryptic Reflections was screened in New York at the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival and in Cairo at El Sawy International Film Festival and at the American University in Cairo.
