Dr Vornoff vs The Martians Independent Film Pitch

'Dr Vornoff vs The Martians!' will be a homage to science-fiction Hollywood B movies of the 1950’s and in particular to the films of Ed Wood (often quoted as the worst film director ever). The story will revolve around naïve housewife Rose, whose over-confident husband Derk is, one night, abducted by Martians. She hires the help of a sceptical private detective to find her lost husband and their search leads them to a treacherous forest where mysterious, shady scientist Dr Vornoff resides in a vast mansion. They soon realise there’s something suspicious about the seemingly harmless old man and unknowingly they uncover a bigger conspiracy than they could have ever possibly imagined.

The film will be a light-hearted parody of classic science-fiction films like 'War of the Worlds', 'Earth vs The Flying Saucers' or 'Plan 9 From Outer Space' and will poke fun at the anti-Communist propaganda rampant in these films at the time and the limitations of their far-fetched stories, limited budgets and often wooden scripts. The idea will be to create a film as clunky and involving as these old films but with added irony, action, a considerably more modern sense of humour and visual style.

The film will aim to pinpoint the charm of the dated genre and repackage it in a way that no-one will feel alienated by the specific references and the overall silliness will appeal to all viewers. The film will be, of course, live action but will contain some animated sequences and deliberately primitive special effects. For example, green-screened stop-motion flying saucers will make an appearance as will a stop-motion talking banana during the fake 50’s-style advertisement (the 'interval').

Essentially, 'Dr Vornoff vs The Martians!' will do for old sci-fi B movies what 'Grindhouse' (Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez) did for 70’s exploitation films.

In short: it'll be so great you'll want to abduct it for yourself!

  • Just want to thank you for your materials and help over the past year. I could not have raised the $1.5 million or made this film without the materials you provided -- and for $99? The bargain of my career!

  • I'm now sending out my completed business plan/film proposal document to potential investors and the one comment I'm getting back almost immediately is that it's so well laid out and professional. Believe me, first impressions really do count.

  • This is perfect! I have potential investors but I had no idea how to prepare a professional investment package to present to them. (I'm an artiste', not a business person. :) ) The information is clear and easy to understand, and Melissa is very prompt in answering emails.

  • Hi Melissa! I purchased Package #3 a couple of days ago, and I feel like I'm taking a crash course in film financing. So far, what I've read and learned has been invaluable. Thank you!

  • I've made short films before, but this is my first feature, and the first film I've tried raising money for. This template, actually the whole package, has been invaluable and well worth the money I spent on it. So much information is packed into what I got that I'm almost dizzy from it all.
