Woman Warrior Independent Film Pitch

Woman Warrior Independent Film Pitch
My name is Natalia Boltukhova. I am a Boston-based photographer, specializing in portraits and sports photography. This documentary project started as my personal photographic exploration on women fighters (MMA and boxing), their stories, lifestyle, personalities, training, and the actual showtime. They come from different walks of life, train in different cities across the country, and are drawn into it for various reasons. It gradually lent such a fertile ground for filming, that it has become a necessity. Photography will continue along with the filming. End products will be a photo book supplemented with their stories in text, and a doc film.
My main reason for raising funds is to be able to travel to the different locations that these women are based out of, training at and have competitive bouts at; also - to afford some additional video and audio equipment and pay additional production members, so you can enjoy a better quality end product: production of the book and the film. Currently funding is already being sourced from my paid photo work, which otherwise goes towards living expenses. I will make every effort to continue with the project whether or not this kickstarter campaign reaches the set goal or not. It just might take longer if the fundraising goals are not met.
So far I have photographed and filmed 6 women fighters, who fight in different disciplines, on different levels and lead very different lifestyles, not to mention their very interesting backgrounds.
Currently, due to a very recent sudden turn in the story for my primary character, Thea (1st in the short video), I am flying out to CO, because she has suffered through a car accident which left her in a pretty rough condition, although she is conscious and moving.
I have made connections and am in the middle of scheduling and planning my shoots (both photo and video) with a former heavyweight champion who now lives in MO, and the first ever female who was on the male wrestling team at Harvard University.
Besides the female fighters themselves, the list of characters I plan to introduce in the film includes but is not limited to:
- male fighters
- male and female coaches
- family members and close friends and rivals of the main characters
- medical doctors
- former “celebrity” type female fighters such as Laila Ali, Lucia Rijker, Jacqui Frazier-Lyde
- the most renowned and knowledgeable female journalist who wrote extensively about boxing Katherine Dunn
With the successful funding I am planning on hiring a production crew (camera, sound, editing) to minimize production errors and to maximize the product output.
As to my own background, I am a professional photographer, specializing in sports photography. I am an established bicycle industry photographer, which includes my photographing pro bicycle racing in various disciplines. I have self-published a photo and interview book on cyclocross. I have exhibited my work many times around Boston. My work has been published multiple times in national and international publications, of bicycle industry and outside of it.
