Carmarthen Bay Film Festival Update
by: Kelvin Guy

Carmarthen Bay Film Festival has gone from strength to strength over the years. From our first festival in 2012, we have gone from 35 submissions to well over 1000 from 70 plus countries for our 2020 festival. Not only have the submissions increased over the years, but the number of filmmakers and festival patrons attending has as well.

Our 2022 festival will be our 11th festival, and we intend to be live and in person at the impressive Ffwrnes Theatre in Llanelli, the jewel in the crown of Carmarthenshire Theatres here in Wales. We will also be screening online on the Sparqfest Film Festival Platform.
The CBFF team are already working on a fantastic programme to complement the selected and in competition films, which will be announced closer to the festival.

It's all about the celebration of excellence and our motto is:
‘Excellence Should Be Seen On Screen’ and we will always be a champion of independent film.

BAFTA delight for the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival
by: Anonymous

The Carmarthen Bay Film Festival has received a prestigious boost as plans begin to take shape for the 2015 event.

The festival, which enters its fourth year in 2015, is now on the approved list for BAFTA Cymru Wales.

Festival CEO and organiser Kelvin Guy said: "The BAFTA abbreviation is pretty special in the world of film. "The British Academy of Film and Television Arts is recognised as a hugely prestigious organisation worldwide.

"To get this recognition from BAFTA Cymru Wales is a huge honour and is a great achievement when you consider what the festival has achieved since it launched in 2011.

"Being on the list of approved BAFTA Cymru Wales festivals helps give added prestige and stardust to the festival, with entrants now being eligible for BAFTA awards as well as the ones on offer at the festival."

Mr Guy said: "Last year's festival was a great success and closed with a a Gala Awards Dinner at the Stradey Park Hotel, Llanelli.

“It was a glitzy affair putting the spotlight on the very best films shown during four screening days at the festival venue at the Stradey Park Hotel.
“We had three BAFTA Cymru members at the awards dinner and one of our chief guests was Llanelli MP Nia Griffith.
“The festival is now truly international and it was nice to reflect that in the final awards night."
Mr Guy, a 49-year-old former Bryngwyn School pupil who is regarded as the expert on the life of Welsh silent movie star Gareth Hughes, added: “There was a big increase in entries for the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival again for 2014.

"Entries flooded in from all four corners of the globe to hit a magnificent total of 135 submissions.”
Mr Guy added: "The news is now going out worldwide that the festival is now on the approved festival list for BAFTA Cymru Wales awards entry eligibly. So the advice to all film-makers out there is, Get submitting for our fourth festival; who knows where it might lead?

The festival dates for 2015 are May 12 to 15, with the main venue at the Stradey Park Hotel.

Countdown on for film festival
by: Anonymous

THE countdown has begun for the first Carmarthen Bay Film Festival, which aims to put Llanelli on the map.

The team behind the festival — the first of its kind to be held in the town — is looking forward to showcasing a varied programme of films at next month's event.

The festival will kick off with a special charity screening of the classic comedy film Grand Slam on May 1, which will raise funds for MacMillan Cancer Support.

Special guests at the Parc y Scarlets event will include Glyn Lloyd Evans, Maldwyn Novello Pugh and Josephine — also known as Dewi Pws Morris, Sion Probert and Elizabeth Morgan.

The evening will feature a question and answer session with the stars, and will be a taster of the festival's screenings, which will start on May 8.

Chief executive officer Kelvin Guy said: "The aim is simple. We want to showcase Welsh and Wales-based film-makers.

"In doing so, we also want to create as much community involvement as possible and really help to put Llanelli on the map for film."

Mr Guy is well known for his work as the biographer of his distant relative and Welsh star in Hollywood Gareth Hughes.

"Llanelli's links with the world of film and cinema go back to the very start of the industry and we will be working hard to explore the many links between Llanelli and Wales and the world of the movies," Mr Guy said.

"But this won't be an event just looking back at the past.

"We want to celebrate and recognise the new talent we have in Wales and, hopefully, help put budding film-makers and film stars on the road to success."

The highlight of the festival will be an awards ceremony and gala dinner on Sunday, May 13.

Mr Guy added: "An exciting programme is taking shape and we will be releasing details of film entries next week."

Coming Through the Rye

Just want to thank you for your materials and help over the past year. I could not have raised the $1.5 million or made this film without the materials you provided. The bargain of my career!

Inside Sportfishing

Finished my deck on Friday. Got it into a few potential investor’s hands over the weekend, and by Monday had 3 out of the 10 available memberships spoken for at $160K each. The revenue projections and film comparable services by NASH, along with the business plan and pitch deck templates were instrumental in presenting the project in such a way that financially minded potential investors could understand the movie business, the market and how my project could possibly give them a substantial ROI.

Melissa was amazing throughout the entire process. Always there to answer any questions. Couldn’t have done it without you guys. Can’t thank you enough. Best money I’ve ever spent.
